School of Social Entrepreneurs and BT Meet Up

During the last week of November the School of Social Entrepreneurs and BT Incubator program came to Brisbane with 22 students from around Australia. This program is one of many programs provided by the School of Entrepreneurs. It takes budding social justice activists and their business ideas through a 9 month program of mentoring, workshops, eyewitness sessions, and field trips. Students from the 2014-2015 Brisbane intake undertook fours days of intensive classes at the State Library of Queensland and site tours to Substation 33 and other local social enterprise projects.

On the evening of the 27th November, the Queensland Social Enterprise Council, SSE, and Resonate held a combined networking event to welcome new students to the sector. The evening however was overshadowed by Brisbane’s biggest storm in 30 years, a storm which brought hail, cyclonic winds, and $100 million dollars of damage to the city. However, the 22 Incubator program students and their program facilitator Pru Gell admirably persevered though 90 mins of traffic jams to traverse the 4 km stretch from the State Library to Fortitude Valley for the meet up. Another 20+ brave souls also turned up to mingle, network, and hear briefly from the 7 QLD students about their projects.

Thank you to the 40+ attendees who came out on the night despite the elements. Thank you to Mu’ooz for their amazing catering and to QSEC and SSE for their part in arranging the evening.
